Performance Boost with Functional Movement Assessment
Posted by admin in Dr. Dean's Wellness BlogInjuries are a common by-product of athletic activities. They often occur due to dysfunction in our movement patterns. Movement pattern dysfunction can also greatly affect our performance and enjoyment of our sporting endeavours.
Recently, I participated in a program in San Francisco facilitated by Titleist Performance Institute (TPI), where I became a Certified Medical Professional, or MP 2. While TPI focuses primarily on Golf, and is a leader in research and data on golf fitness, health and swing biomechanics, the Selective Functional Movement Assessments (SFMA) that we worked with can be adapted for all sports.
I’m excited to be able to offer SFMA as a comprehensive diagnostic modality that will assess your movement patterns and help direct my treatment strategies for existing injuries as well as developing individualized plans for injury prevention and performance optimization.
Athletes of any level can benefit from this.
We all develop repetitive movement patterns. Some patterns are functionally sound and enhance our performance, others are dysfunctional; they result from areas of weakness, imbalance, and/or restriction. They can lead to injury and reduced performance. Detection of these dysfunctional patterns allows us to modify and correct the dysfunction, reducing the likelihood of future injury, and/or addressing the root cause of existing pain and injury.
Whether you are currently suffering a sports injury, are hoping to avoid injury, or have concerns about your performance and function, SFMA could be the boost you need to take you to the next level through functional health and biomechanics!
