Flexion-Distraction Technique, Non-Surgical Spine Pain Relief
Posted by admin in Dr. Dean's Wellness BlogA few weeks ago I had the opportunity to travel to Chicago and complete an advanced certification in Cox Technic® which is a flexion-distraction technique utilizing a specialized adjusting table known as the Cox8. This certification was taught by none other than Dr. M Cox, who not only invented and developed the technique, but also the table. The original table was invented in the early ’70s and has gone through numerous improvements in the decades since, resulting in this years newest version the Cox8.
Dr. Cox is an internationally renowned Chiropractor and researcher. His achievements are too numerous to list here but can be found on his link. I considered it to be a great privilege to have had the opportunity to learn from him. I plan to return next year and work on case studies to deepen my own work in this area.
Flexion-distraction technique is a gentle, non-force adjustment procedure that helps the spine to heal. It often provides fast relief from low back pain, neck pain, and/or hip and leg pain without the need for surgery.
Decompression of vertebrae is achieved by applying stretching or traction to the spine. The technique utilizes slow repetitive movements that gently take the affected areas through a natural range of motion. Patients often report that they find this treatment both soothing and relaxing.
This technique has shown good results in resolving herniated discs. Flexion-distraction therapy is also used for:
-degenerated discs
-leg and hip pain
-neck and arm pain
-spinal stenosis
-failed back surgical syndromes
I included a Cox8 table in my clinic having learned on it and having used it during my days of internship at Palmer Chiropractic College Clinic. I was not only impressed by the results achieved with this technique and table, but also with the amount of research and clinical data spanning more than 40 years. Cox technic® is one of the most studied Chiropractic techniques for low back pain relief.
“Cox Technic is committed to developing evidence-based protocols and documenting the clinical outcomes for physicians who are back pain specialists, focused on the non-surgical treatment of spinal pain”
